Chearsley Carol Singers this Christmas raised the staggering sum of
£440.00
which will be divided equally between The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and DebRA.
The singers would like to thank everybody for their tremendous help and support. DebRA wrote to say that this past year has seen some promising results from trials of a new treatment and it is the help from supporters such as Chearsley that is really making the difference, now and for the future.

Weather Warning

This is a Community Message from Aylesbury Watch Office for the attention of all vehicle owners / drivers.
With the weather being so cold at the moment, please remember not to leave your cars or motorcycles unattended with the engines running.
At this time of year it can be tempting to leave the car on the drive or on the street with the engine running to defrost the windscreen or melt the snow. This is an ideal chance for an opportunist thief to steal the vehicle or property.
The majority of insurers are unlikely to cover claims for theft or damage to your vehicle in these circumstances.

Lies, damned lies, and, er... no grit in the bins
It has come to the attention of the Parish Council that a Chearsley resident, on telephoning Highways, was told the reason the village grit bins are empty is because the PC did not order a refill.
On behalf of the Parish Council, I would like to categorically deny this, and state that a request was made in February for replenishment. The parish clerk was informed that there was none available at the time, but that the bins would be refilled. This never happened, despite the matter being pursued.
The Chairman himself will endeavour to pick up some salt and sand on Tuesday morning for distribution around the village, and any resident who has obtained, or can obtain some themselves, will be reimbursed by the PC (who will in turn put in a claim to Highways). Please keep your receipts and pass them on to the Parish Council Clerk.

Sue Grimsdell, who has been selling poppies door-to-door in Chearsley for about 10 years, would like to thank everyone for their generosity this year which has resulted in a collection of over £355 – a record amount for Sue. Having two sons as officers in the Army and knowing other village lads in the Army, Sue is particularly grateful for Chearsley for their magnificent support. Sue is to be congratulated on the good job she does.

Patience Clowes
Everyone who knew Patience will be saddened to learn of her death at the age of 95. Having qualified as an Almoner, she worked for many years in Social Services, her last job before retirement as Director of Social Services in Bucks. Patience first lived in The Boot, then moved to Chiltern View in Watts Green until she became a resident in Leonard Pullen House at Halton, of which she was a founder member. Patience will be remembered by many for her contributions to Chearsley life as a long serving member of the Parochial Church Council, support of the Church and as member and President of Chearsley W.I. Our condolences go to her nephews and families.

Della and Alan Mitchener of Shupps Lane on becoming the proud grandparents of their first granddaughter, born on December 16th to their youngest son, Daniel and his wife Victoria.

There is a high risk of severe weather affecting parts of east and southeastern England during Thursday evening and Friday. Heavy snow showers will give accumulations of 5-10cm in places on low ground and 15-20cm over hills. The snow showers are expected to gradually die out from the north of the area through the day. Some drifting snow is likely in the strong north to northeasterly wind. This could cause disruption to travel networks.

Christmas at St Nicholas, Chearsley
Everyone is welcome to the following Christmas celebrations :
Lessons and Carols: December 20th at 6pm
Children’s Crib Service: December 24th at 3pm - a simple candlelit service when there is a short re-telling of the Nativity Story with the children placing characters in the crib. It is also a chance to have a quiet moment to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas
Midnight Communion: December 24th at 11.30pm
Christmas Praise: December 25th at 10am.
Christmas Tree Lights Ceremony
Friday 18th December is when there will be celebrations round our Christmas Tree on The Green, decorated by children from Chuf and Junior Church and the lights officially switched on. Come and join with everyone for carols, mince pies, hot mulled wine, and cheer. From 6.00 to 7.30pm.
Bingo at The Bell
About 35 villagers responded to the call of Bingo at The Bell on Tuesday 8th December evening, when some regulars at the bar eventually got the hang of what to do, surprising themselves at the fun they had. The Arnott family from Nether Winchendon, sitting at a lucky table, swept the board. It is planned to make Bingo a monthly occurrence. Watch The Bell blackboard for more information.

The Bell has been “highly commended” in the AVDC “Best Village Pub in Aylesbury Vale” for 2009. AVDC runs the award every year in memory of the late Councillor Ted Payne and to recognise the important role that village pubs play in community life. Congratulations to Ollie and Sharon and their staff - you are doing a great job.

If The Archers can do it – why not Chearsley? Come along to the next Parish Council meeting in January to find out what may be planned to further advertise and promote Chearsley as a great village. The notice board will have details of the date in January.

Comic Relief's Older People's Programme (UK)

Comic Relief is inviting the voluntary and community sector throughout the
· Support older people to bring positive change to their community
· Help older people feel less isolated, especially those who are most excluded such as:
o black and minority ethnic elders
o frail older people with mental health needs
o older carers
o those on lower incomes.
Examples of the types of projects they will fund include:
· Bringing the generations together to learn from each other through, for example, the creative arts or IT
· Older people acting as a resource to other older people and supporting those who may be less physically and mentally able
· Projects that are engaging hard to reach groups
· Activities which generate profits to further social or environmental goals, such as community cafes run by older people.
Most grants are expected to be of between £15,000 and £40,000 per year. Grants may be for up to 3 years.
Previous projects supported include:
· The Somali Senior Citizens Club,
· Age Concern, North East Wales, which received a grant of £81,704 to provide a range of services that help tackle elder abuse.

Watch members are advised that representatives for the British Red Cross will be calling house to house in the Aylesbury Vale Council area from 30/11/09 - 24/12/09, collecting for the charity.
Organisers state that fund-raisers will all be wearing a photo ID badge, but if you have any doubt about the identity of a collector you can contact the British Red Cross's free helpline 0800 031 9811

This is being held on Thursday 3rd December at 2 Old Plough Close from 10 – 12pm. Come along for a cup of coffee or mulled wine and mince pie. There will be homemade cakes, jams, chutneys and a great selection of crafts for sale. A chance to buy some Christmas presents.

Hours are negotiable for the positition, which is for term time only. Application forms are available - contact email is info@chufpreschool.co.uk. Closing date for applications is 4th December, with interviews being held early January.

Proposed Speed Limit for Chearsley
I have looked at this plan for proposed speed limits in Chearsley, on the Chearsley website and most stretches already have the existing speed limit of 30 mph. At present there are numerous old speed limit orders covering a single community, so Bucks County Council want to replace these with a single order. To comply legally, a new Traffic Regulation Order has to show all the roads and their limits including those where the limit already applies. However,it seems to me, that the new order will extend the speed limit of 30mph on the Chilton Road to come into force at around Hill Farm.

Residents are being urged to be on their guard against bogus officials offering to give council refunds, relating to council tax.
People are being called and told they may qualify for a refund and then asked for their bank account details so the payment can be made. In some cases residents have also been asked for a £90 administration fee to process their application.
Whilst Bucks Trading Standards are not yet aware of any offences in our area, it is worth everyone being vigilant and not giving out any sensitive information to unknown callers, either on the phone or in person. If you receive any such approach, contact the Police on 0845 8 505 505.
If you are due for any kind of refund, you will be informed in writing by your Local Authority and no 'admin' fee will be payable!

News from Dubai
Chearsley family, Alex (one of the Chearsley Calendar Girls) and Malcolm Wall-Morris, who are currently living in Dubai, are the proud parents of a daughter, Isabella born on 9th November, a sister for Thomas and James. Congratulations to them!
Chearsley Cricket Club
A very successful and enjoyable annual dinner was held at the Spread Eagle on Friday 6th November, attended by over 100 cricketers, guests and friends. More than £1,900 was raised during the evening which will go towards pavilion improvements. Special thanks go to James Veness and Alex Brown who were the main organisers of the event.
Long Crendon Day Centre
Volunteers are needed to help with driving members to the Centre or helping serve meals, washing up, organising games and chatting to the members. Several Chearsley residents have benefited over a number of years, from the services the Day Centre provides. Please contact Andrea Camden on 01844 208508 if you feel you could help.

A meeting was held on Monday 16th November in the Village Hall under the chairmanship of Nic Brown, with several members of the public present.
A suggestion that the traffic could be halted during the Remembrance Day service at the War Memorial was put forward and it was agreed to enquire of Dave Smith of Long Crendon what measures they took.
Stockwell had now had some clearing work carried out by Aylesbury Vale volunteers and several Chearsley men, achieving a good result, with the plan to continue further in this area next year aiming to expose the stream and to let the habitat improve. Sonia Timberlake was thanked for organizing this and re-installing the pump.
Christmas Celebrations: A 12ft Christmas tree will be erected on The Green. It will be decorated with white lights and decorations made by the children of Chuf and Junior Church. Plans are in hand for a village gathering round the tree on Friday, 18th with mulled wine and mincepies. An amount of £200 had been set aside to cover the cost.

Dieu Donne: This planning application had been passed by AVDC against the objections of Chearsley Parish Council, who considered it to be an inappropriate dwelling for the plot. Nic felt strongly that their considerations had been dismissed, although he appreciated the Planning Authority were able to do this, and would be taking the matter up with AVDC.
7 Church Lane: This application for a conservatory had been passed with no objection from the Parish Council
Traffic Calming Measures: Signs are in the process of being made and will be erected within the next few weeks at each of the 4 entries into Chearsley, urging motorists to slow down.
The organizers of this year’s fête have written that they would like one quarter of the fête’s proceeds to contribute towards the purchase of vehicle activated signs for the village.
Hedge trimming: Black Path, between Dark Lane and School Lane needs attention, which will be attended to by Graham King when he trims the hedge and verge at the top of School Lane.
Light in Church Piece: It was suggested that instead of mending the broken light, to have 5 individual motion detectors fitted to each property and for the Handyman Service of AVDC to be approached about this.
Next meeting is the Budget Meeting on January 11th
Community Responders
There is good evidence to suggest that if people are trained to help someone while the ambulance is on the way, then more lives are saved. The South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust are asking for volunteers to become Community Responders by undergoing a specially designed training course over 2 or 3 days. Bucks Tree Club
The Bucks Tree Club is seeking tree guardians in each neighbourhood in the towns and villages of Buckinghamshire.
Bucks Tree Club members love trees so exchange news and information about trees, their cultivation and woodlands as well as plan visits to arboreta and gardens with interesting trees for their own enjoyment and knowledge. They also hope to encourage more interest in trees by the Club’s website which already holds a list of the ancient woodlands in the county and has an ongoing project of compiling a list of the ‘Best in Bucks’ – the best example of each tree species that can be seen by the public in Buckinghamshire.
This National Tree Week, November 26th to December 6th, the Bucks Tree Club invites all Tree Wardens or anyone else who would like to be identified as caring about their local trees and woodlands, to email buckstreeclub@gmail.com or write to the club, c/o The Dendrologist, PO Box 341, Chesham, Bucks. HP5 2RD. Then their name and how they would like to be contacted, can be displayed as a guardian for the treescape around their village or town. When published on the website, this will help people see if their area, has someone caring for their local trees and woodlands and if not, they may want to volunteer themselves as such a guardian.
A network of such guardians would have many advantages including contact with each other and help with establishing the best or rare trees in their own area and encouraging local pride in these.

CAB Christmas Newsletter December 2009
A very Happy Christmas to all our readers, from Thame Citizens Advice Bureau!
Christmas is a time for family and for celebrations. For many 2009 has been a hard year and lots of us may feel relieved if we have reached the end of it with our jobs and bank balances intact! So it’s a relief to have a piece of good news, which will help some families balance those Christmas budgets.
More families with children will now be able to get help towards paying their rent, thanks to new changes to benefit rules. Parents who receive Child Benefit and rent their homes but who at present get no housing benefit should check their entitlement again.
Thame CAB has worked out that a single parent with two children, for example, who previously just missed out on getting any help towards paying the rent could now be entitled to housing benefit of up to £21.58 a week.
The rule change also means some parents already receiving housing benefit will automatically see the amount they are entitled to go up, and more people will also become eligible for help in paying their council tax bills.
The extra money will be available to help all tenants with children, whether they live in council housing, housing association property, or private rented accommodation.
It comes about because from Monday 2 November income from child benefit will no longer be taken into account when it comes to calculating entitlement to housing benefit and council tax benefit.
So let’s all enjoy spending time with family and friends this Christmas and make the holiday period a break from the pressures of our ordinary working lives.

Due to the heavy rain forecast for Saturday morning, the village litter pick has been postponed. A new date will be proposed at the PC meeting on Monday evening.

This work has now been completed and Mike Stephens would like to thank everyone for their patience while this work was going on. Mike has no hesitation in recommending the contractors, John Lee Construction Ltd. for any tarmac work, being very pleased with their polite and accommodating manner.

This play by Charles Way based on the novel by Bruce Chatwin is being performed on Saturday 21st November at 7.30pm at The Bernard Hall, Cuddington. It is co-produced with Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. Tickets are available from Elaine English, costing £8 and £5 for children. Contact Elaine on 01296 655698. After the play, there will be a discussion with the actors and the widow of Bruce Chatwin.

St Nicholas Church – Toy Service
Everyone is welcome to the annual Family Toy Service,which will be held in Chearsley on Sunday 22nd November at 11am, when Christmas is looked forward to and also children less fortunate than our own are in our thoughts. The Church supports the Mix 96 Christmas Appeal for new toys and we would ask you to bring your gifts to the service. They can be unwrapped or in an open bag, so the organisers can distribute them appropriately.
Pumpkin Night at The Bell on Thursday October 29th
Pumpkin Night was an annual tradition celebrated in The Bell up to a few years ago, attracting pumpkins of a mighty size. This year, the tradition has been re-introduced by Ollie and Sharon. Steve Vear is to be congratulated on becoming Pumpkin Champion of 2009 with the heaviest pumpkin at 51.5lbs, which narrowly beat Mike’s by 1lb. Steve was awarded the Shield, which had been donated by the late Snowy Young many years ago. and had the honour of being dressed in a suitable tee shirt advertising the size of his pumpkin. Brian Arnott won the booby prize, with a pumpkin of 5oz, narrowly beating his son, David, and was similarly given a suitable tee shirt advertising the size of his pumpkin! There are some good photos taken by Perry Smith on the Chearsley website. There was also an award for the Best Dressed Pumpkin which went to Tony and Sandra. During the evening, £95 was very generously raised for the Charity bottle which supports Stoke Mandeville Eye Hospital appeal for vital new equipment. It was a good night, enjoyed by many customers. Already there is talk about next year with bigger and better exhibits.
CHUF Christmas Shopping Evening
Chuf are holding this evening on Wednesday, 18th November at 7.30pm in Chearsley Village Hall. Entry is £2 which includes seasonal refreshments and a chance to browse and buy books, gifts, jewellery, Christmas cards, kitchen and glassware, chocolates and much more from the many and varied stalls which will be there.

This will be held in the Village Hall on Monday, 16th November at 7pm when all members of the public are welcome

This will follow the Village Hall Committee meeting on Monday 16th November and starts at 7.45pm.

Epilepsy Action
Debbie Corpe and her mother, Joc, held a very successful fund raising event on Friday 23rd October, as part of the National Tea Break for Epilepsy action. There was an array of plants, gifts, cakes for sale and together with the raffle, the amount of £511 was raised. This was quite a bit more than was raised last year. Well done to Debbie and Joc and everyone who supported this good cause.
Birthday Congratulations
Ian Perkins, although a Nether Winchendon resident, known to many in Chearsley, recently celebrated a landmark birthday in phenomenal style. An amazing display of fireworks. Congratulations Ian.

This will next take place on Sunday 8th November when there is a lay led, all age service at Chearsley Church, starting at 9.45 and finishing in time for Junior Church. Everyone is welcome. As usual, the service will be followed by drinks and biscuits and a time to chat and catch up with friends.

The Youth Club are organizing fireworks at Chearsley Village Hall on Saturday, 7th November for us all, from 6.30pm. There will be mulled wine, sausage rolls and toffee apples available.

Work to resurface the cul-de-sac in Lower Green Lane starts on Monday 2nd November. The work should take about a week. Efforts will be made to keep any disruption to traffic in the lane to a minimum, but inevitably there will be times when lorries block the road.
New bus timetables
You may be aware that there is a new bus timetable from 2nd November. Service 261 is being replaced by 110 which will continue to run every 2 hours from Aylesbury to Thame, but will no longer serve Haddenham. Some times have changed, so beware. The timetable can be download by clicking here and Thame Tourist Information centre have copies. There will be a service to Haddenham Health Centre on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays, with services 111 and 113.

We certainly hope you have no problems, the drive is in a very dangerous state at present and it is essential that the work is carried out.

Chearsley Fete in June 2010
There has been a preliminary meeting chaired by Claire Lazaruk and the date of Saturday June 26th has been agreed as the date for the Fete next year. So please make a note of this date. Planning is still in the early stages and Clare would welcome any offers of help on the day to run the various stalls, help beforehand, or any ideas or suggestions you may have. The suggested theme is “nature”. Please email Clare on clairesampson@aol.com and watch the noticeboard for any further meetings.

There has been a preliminary meeting chaired by Claire Lazaruk and the date of Saturday June 26th has been agreed as the date for the Fete next year. So please make a note of this date. Planning is still in the early stages and Clare would welcome any offers of help on the day to run the various stalls, help beforehand, or any ideas or suggestions you may have. This is a Community Message from Aylesbury Watch Office on Wednesday 21 October 2009.
The local neighbourhood teams in Aylesbury Vale's rural areas will be carrying out a number of activities during Alcohol Awareness week, to remind people of the consequences of drinking too much and help everyone help themselves to stay safe on a night out.
The neighbourhood officers will be also be proactively tackling any alcohol related anti-social behaviour, including under age drinking, and helping to reduce alcohol related crime.
During this week school liaison officers will be visiting the local schools to give alcohol related advice and warn the students about the consequences of drinking alcohol under age, including health issues, being more vulnerable to crime and the consequences of being caught drinking alcohol by the police.
High visibility patrols will be carried out in known hot spot areas, including the Buckingham Fair. No alcohol zones will be policed in the towns and villages, specifically in Wendover where young people have being reported to be causing anti-social behaviour, and where under-age drinking has been reported.
Officers will be working closely with Trading Standards, carrying out operations to focus on licensed premises who sell alcohol to under age people, and officers will be carrying out licensing checks across the rural neighbourhoods.
Neighbourhood Inspector Emma Garside, said: "Work to tackle alcohol related crime and anti-social behaviour is always at the top of our agenda, but we wanted to use Alcohol Awareness week to promote the work the police do on a regular basis to reduce the amount of alcohol related incidents. "

As the clocks go back and the nights draw in, Aylesbury Vale residents are being offered free timer light switches.
In response to the traditional rise in burglaries after the clocks go back, the Aylesbury Vale Community Safety Partnership is working on an initiative which targets residents who get home after dark in the winter months, such as commuters and late night shoppers.
Residents are being asked to consider using their timer light switch to leave a light on if they plan to return home after dark. Other advice is to regularly vary the times they set timer switches to turn on and off.
Over the next four weeks, staff from Thames Valley Police and Aylesbury Vale District Council's community safety team will be at bus stations, train stations and town centres handing out timer switches, energy efficient light bulbs and property marking kits along with information about how to secure homes effectively against burglaries.
Timer light switches will be available from the Community Safety Shop in Hale Leys, the AVDC offices at 66 High Street, and at Aylesbury, Wendover and Waddesdon Police Stations. A number of additional events will take place at train and bus stations from 26 October.

St Nicholas - Morning Celebration
On the second Sunday of each month (that's this Sunday, 11th) there is a lay led, all-age service at our church. It starts at 9.45 and finishes in time for children to go to Junior Church at 11 if they so wish.
All are welcome this Sunday where we will be continuing with the story of David, including mystery parcels for the children to unwrap!
David Mitchener, Alan and Della's son who plays the music for our service, recently visited Cambodia and, with his wife, Justine, went to see the Daughters project (taking girls out of sex trafficking).
The congregation have been supporting this charity and David and Justine will kindly give us an update on Sunday.
As usual, the service will be followed by drinks and biscuits and a time to chat and catch up with friends.

It is sad to report the deaths of two ladies of Chearsley in the past weeks. Jean Walker of Chestnut View, Winchendon Road and Yvonne Williams of Chestnut View, Chilton Road. Sympathies go to their families.
ERIC CARTE
Good news about our local well known actor, who is currently rehearsing in “Mrs Warren’s Profession” by George Bernard Shaw. This is a play written in 1893, but only first performed in 1902, as it was banned by the Lord Chamberlain because of its frank discussion and portrayal of prostitution. This production directed by Michael Rudman brings Eric and Felicity Kendal together again. In 2000, Eric appeared at the Apollo Theatre in Noel Coward’s Fallen Angels , also directed by Michael Rudman, with Felicity and Frances de la Tour. A coach party from Chearsley had a good day out in London to see Eric. The play will open in Bath for two weeks, followed by a week in Birmingham, starting 9th November and Richmond Theatre, London, the following week, 16th November. It is hoped that the New Year will bring a West End run. Maybe, a little theatre trip will be organized!?

Pumpkin Night this year will be on Thursday 29th October to be held in The Bell. So, wheelbarrows at the ready, come along with your pumpkins, to find out who is the proud owner of the heaviest. The pub’s usual evening menu plus soup will be available. Come and support this fun, traditional event.

You can now find out all about what is going on at the tearooms and shop, including what’s on the new winter menu, by logging on to their new website at www.chearsleyshop.com. A Halloween event with treats for children in costume, with food and drink available is being arranged from 5pm until 7pm on Friday 30th October. Bookings are also being taken for Christmas meals.

Chuf are asking for help and information about damage caused to their plastic storage bin at the Village Hall during the weekend of 12th September. The cost of a replacement will be in the region of £100. Anyone who has any information, please contact Cheri or Debbie on 01844 208868.
HARVEST SUPPER
I was sorry to be away on holiday (in case you wondered where the column had gone) and miss this village event at the Village Hall, but Alicia reports that it was a great night, with a feast of cold meats, salads and home-made apple desserts washed down with Chiltern Ale and wine. During the evening, there was entertainment by Alex Hearmon, talented local musician, who played folk songs on the violin; Anne Persson hilariously performed a rendition of Joyce Grenfell’s “the Nursery School”, “The Von Pratt Family Ringers” rang “Ode to Joy” on hand bells and our very own, Reverend. John Wyndburn played his guitar and sang a medley of Bob Dylan classics. A basket of fruit and vegetables, kindly donated by Chearsley allotment holders, was raffled, which raised £200 for the “Jenny and Jessy” School and Orphanage in Uganda. The evening was rounded off with a raucous, roof- raising communal sing-song!
HARVEST FESTIVAL
The following morning, St. Nicholas celebrated Harvest Festival with a truly joyful Family Service. The Church looked beautiful in the late summer sunshine, bedecked in sunflowers, sheaves of corn, fruit and vegetables and floral arrangements created by Joy Payne and her team. The church was full to the brim. The harvest gifts were taken to share amongst the elderly at the Long Crendon Day Centre. Congratulations to Elsie Jacobs who was baptised during the service.
RECYCLING
All baskets, including the bottle containers can be put out for collection next Tuesday, 20th October.

This was held on Saturday 5th September, when the overall winner was Julian George who was presented with the Vic Walker Cup. Julian was also the winner of the Wilfred Kind Cup for Best Domestic , the Eli Godfrey Glass Plate for his Jam tarts, and the wooden bowl for Best Fruit. Julian had to share the Gadsby Trophy for Best Vegetables with Alan Whiffin. Many congratulations to Julian.
The new category of a hanging basket was won by Della Mitchener. She received a photograph frame as her prize.
Other winners were : Cyndy Whiffin for Best Photograph; Perry Smith for Best Model; Jan Grimshaw for Best Art Entry; Mary Scholefield for Craft; Pauline Parkes for Best Flowers; Ann Pratt for Best Flower Arrangement; Mary Scholefield and Perry Smith share the Harry Gregory Cup for Craftsmanship.
A total of 13 children put in 37 entries and Christian Collins won the Harold Braley Cup for Best Children's Entry. Katherine George was the Children’s Champion. Quite a winning day for the Georges!
We were pleased to have Chloe Lambert to present the prizes – it wouldn’t be the same without her. All in all, it was a very successful day, with an increase in entrants and entries which makes all the hard work worth it.

For the first time for many years, the village will be able to join in a Harvest Supper. This is to be held at Chearsley Village Hall on Saturday 26th September at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 per person which will include a 2 course meal with wine or beer and entertainment. Alicia Howard is asking for help with the cooking and to hear from anyone who would like to perform their “party piece”. Please ring Alicia on 208036.

This service at St. Nicholas Church is on Sunday 27th September at 11am. The harvest gifts of fruit, vegetables and tinned foods will be given to the Long Crendon Day Centre. Help with decorating the Church on the Saturday is needed. Just turn up at the Church at 10am.

This is next in the village on Monday 28th September from 1.10 to 1.35pm.
Recycling
There will be a collection of all bins, baskets and bottles on September 22nd. It is best to put these out the night before unless you get up early in the morning!

We have been informed that delivery of the Aylesbury Phone Book will commence on the 30th September, with deliveries in the area being made in the following 2 - 3 weeks.
Delivery agents have been instructed by the distribution company not to leave directories on view from the street, however they state it is unavoidable that some books will be left outside. If this happens, the company are hoping that community minded neighbours will bring in the books where possible.
If you have any queries about the delivery of the Aylesbury Phone Book (not Yellow Pages), you can contact the distribution Company, DEYA, on 01189 777241.

Waddesdon Open Day
Heritage Open Day & Emergency Services Free Day - Saturday 12th September.
Waddesdon emergency services Open Day is being held this coming Saturday between 10:00am and 5:00pm at Waddesdon Manor and everyone is invited to attend.
Waddesdon police station holds an annual open day with Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue and other organisations attending include South Central ambulance service, Buckinghamshire County Council and other key partner agencies.
With it also being the National Trust's Heritage open day there is the added bonus of Waddesdon Manor being free to enter. An estimated 4,000 to 5,000 people are expected to attend the event, weather permitting.
Your local neighbourhood policing officers will be on hand talking about the role of a Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and the responsibilities the officers and PCSOs have. The Special Constabulary will also be available to talk to about their role and how other people can help and join the team if interested.
The Force helicopter will hopefully be making an appearance and the local Neighbourhood Action Group will also have a stall explaining their role and the good work they do in the local community.

Chearsley Village Trust
The Village Trust is now inviting applications from individuals or groups in the village for an award for finance for their project or activity. Please write to Val Davies, the Clerk to the Trustees at Minster, Dark Lane, Chearsley HP18 0DA giving details of your project, who benefits and what other funds are available. The deadline for applications is Sunday 27th September.
A proportion of the proceeds from Chearsley fête go towards the Village Trust to fund any suitable applications.

St Nicholas Church Fun Day - Footsteps
A fun day for 25 local children took place on Tuesday 25th August. The aim of the day was for the children to “walk in the footsteps of Jesus”, hence the name “Footsteps”. The day started in the village hall making all sorts of craft items from glittery doves hanging from strings to cardboard swords and shields to be used later as props in the drama. Older children and teenagers made a large cardboard fishing boat complete with mast, which formed part of a happy, carnival-like procession through the village lanes to a large garden with pond where the children learnt about the baptism of Jesus. It was then time for a picnic lunch - “feeding of the 5000”. Next came a walk to the church, “Jerusalem” , past the well-known village donkeys. At Jerusalem, the older children acted out the Last Supper, crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus, while the younger ones enjoyed painting their feet to make footprints on a big banner. A great fun day for all – an occasion the children are asking to be repeated next year.
Chearsley Village Trust
The Village Trust is now inviting applications from individuals or groups in the village for an award for finance for their project or activity. Please write to Val Davies, the Clerk to the Trustees at Minster, Dark Lane, Chearsley HP18 0DA giving details of your project, who benefits and what other funds are available. The deadline for applications is Sunday 27th September.
A proportion of the proceeds from Chearsley fête go towards the Village Trust to fund any suitable applications.

This will be held on Saturday 5th September at Chearsley Village Hall. The timetable is :
8.30 to 10.15 – the hall is open for setting out entries.

Footsteps - a reminder!
If you have children between 0 and 10, don't forget to sign up for "Footsteps", a fun day for children and parents being held on Tuesday, 25th August in the village hall and church. There will be a chance to have a go at lots of craft activities including making swords and shields for the boys and glitter, glue and paint activities for the girls.
At lunchtime, you can enjoy a picnic with friends and then head to the church for more fun, games and drama. Then finish the day off with some yummy cakes.

Chearsley Fruit and Vegetable Show on Saturday, 5th September
Our annual Show takes place on Saturday, 5th September. If you grow fruit, vegetables or flowers , please do think about putting in some entries. You really do not have to consider yourself an expert. Have a look at the categories and there is bound to be something you could enter; from courgettes and beans to sweet peas or roses. Flower arrangements, fruit cake or apple pie, photographs or models. Schedules are available from Chearsley Tea Rooms or contact one of the committee members for a copy. These are Rosemary Wallis, Joy Payne or Jean Tribe.
The deadline for entries is Tuesday, 1st September. The Show takes a lot of organizing and hard work and everyone involved deserves our thanks. Please try to make this year’s Show the best ever.
If you decide not to participate, please come as a spectator. Doors of the Village Hall open to the public at 2.30pm. Come and take a look at what is on show, buy a raffle ticket, have a cup of tea and a chat with friends. You will possibly think you could have done better than the winning entries, so next year, don’t miss your opportunity.

This fund raising event on July 30th raised £250 for Learn as One - a charity funding the building of a school in Zambia.

Anne Burnett of Dark Lane, is a new contributor to our Church magazine and would welcome any news which you may like to have included in the monthly magazine, or if you are considering placing a regular advert in the magazine which is widely circulated in the three villages. Perhaps we can expect some recipes or cooking tips from Anne once she has had time to get used to her brand new Aga, which she cleverly won in a recent magazine (not Across) competition.

A new forensic property marking system is being introduced across Buckinghamshire this week to make life more difficult for burglars and thieves and make it easier to convict them.
SelectaDNA forensic property marking is being introduced by the Buckinghamshire Community Safety Partnership as part of Operation Breaker, the Force's anti-burglary drive.
Thames Valley Police's Crime Reduction Advisers will be provided with SelectaDNA property marking kits for allocation to identified crime "hot spot" areas, the elderly and vulnerable and previous victims of burglary, over the course of the next 18 months. Others who are interested can order kits via the SelectaDNA website.
The initial rollout will cover the Elmhurst and Watermead areas of Aylesbury, Buckingham, Chalfont St Peter, the Micklefield and Totteridge areas of High Wycombe, Marlow and Iver.
Thames Valley Police will be advising residents on how to use the marking kits in their homes. Each kit contains a bottle of the SelectaDNA formula, which consists of an ultraviolet tracer and a unique DNA code. The clear liquid, which contains identifying microdots, can be easily applied by residents to any household item to verify it as belonging to their property.
If suitably marked property such as a laptop, flatscreen TV, mobile phone or piece of jewellery is stolen and later recovered by police, it can be scanned using a UV light and traced back to the rightful owner via the DNA marking.

Watch members are advised to exercise caution when dealing with unknown telephone callers, after a resident in Oakley received a suspicious call on the 9th August.
The male caller, who sounded Asian, claimed to be calling from Sky and asked the occupant for her credit card details, in order that they could update Sky's records. The resident, who does have Sky, but pays by Direct Debit, became suspicious and refused to give any details. She later made enquiries with Sky Customer Services, who stated that Sky had not contacted her.
If you receive a call from anyone that is not known to you, asking for bank or credit card details, please refuse, unless you can verify that the person is definitely genuine. If in doubt, call the Police on the non emergency number 0845 8 505 505.
