CBT for Carers

What is CBT?

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Who is the CBT for Carers group for?

The group is for carers of any age who are:
  • Caring for someone with a diagnosed dementia
  • Looking for ways of managing stress or depression and ideas for caring more effectively for their relative/friend

What will the group cover?

  • Stress management
  • Coping with difficult thoughts and emotions
  • Ideas to help you care for your relative as effectively as possible, for as long as possible
  • Understanding dementia and your reaction to it
  • Identifying helpful ways of interacting with your relative/friend to reduce your feelings of stress/distress/depression
  • Identifying ways of responding when your relative/friend is distressed and coping with the behaviour you find most difficult
  • You will also meet other carers, and be able to share ideas and experiences of caring with someone with dementia.

When, where and how long?

  • These groups are being run across Buckinghamshire by Primary and Secondary Care services (NHS).  The venue for the group will be decided based on where there is the most demand. 
Duration:  The group will run for 12 sessions, once a fortnight, each lasting 1½ hours.  The group is FREE. If you are interested in attending this group, or would like more information, please contact: Healthy Minds and mention ‘CBT for carers group
