Shack Attack – weekend of June 8 and 9 at Long Meadow, Dark Lane - this is a challenge to raise awareness of what life is like in a shanty town with no water, heating, toilet or washing facilities. An invitation to create a shack out of scavenged materials – tarpaulins, cardboard, ropes, pipes and then spend the night in it. In the morning, if the shack is still standing, it will be tested with water pistols and prizes given for the most comfortable shack, the most inventive, the smartest etc. There will be a bonfire and Barbeque food will be available . Anyone taking part is welcome to bring a tent in the event of the shack not surviving the night. Spectators are welcome. May is National Walking Month
Walking is a normal everyday activity, but very good exercise to help stay healthy, watch our weight and to give us energy. The minimum recommendation from doctors to keep your body healthy and prevent illness such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes is 150 minutes of activity a week, which could be just 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week. Being active every day will keep your body and blood pressure at its best whatever your age. Many people in Bucks are enjoying walking with the Simply Walks scheme. These are volunteer led walks running throughout the year with over 500 walkers joining every week on more than 50 walks across the county. There is no need to book, just choose your walk and on your first walk arrive 15 minutes early to register with the walk leader. The walks are free. Well behaved dogs on non-extendable leads are permitted at the discretion of the walk leader. Local walks are in Haddenham every other Wednesdays. Meet in the Library car park at 10.30am. Stone, the other alternate week to Haddenham. Meet outside the Methodist Chapel, Eythrope Road, Stone at 10.30am. Winslow – Meet at The St. Laurence Room, Winslow at 10am on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. Wendover Woods on the first Thursday of the month. Meet at the cafe at 11.00am. Buckingham on Fridays, meet at Cornwalls Meadow Car Park, outside Waitrose at 11am. There are 2 walks for differing abilities. More information is available from Fiona Broadbent, Simply Walk coordinator, on 01494 475367 or email simplywalks@buckscc.gov.uk.

New airport at Haddenham concerns
There have been many rumours this week in the village about the possibility of the old World War II glider airfield at Haddenham being developed into a major new airport with the consequence of the villages of Chearsley and Long Crendon being “removed”. This dismaying news has stemmed from an article in Aviation Week with information taken from Heathrow 2025 – masterplan options and indicative layouts documents produced by the Mott MacDonald Consultancy, which has now looked into 2 new sites previously not considered for the siting of another major airport. The other new site is at White Waltham. There are a total of 10 options considered in the documents. Heathrow Airport officials told Aviation Week that the documents are early drafts developed by consultants last year, not designs that have been endorsed by Heathrow Airport. The Airport will be making its considered submission to the Airports Commission in July. The article in Aviation Week can be viewed in full here.
